Several years ago, the CPP class on African American History at SCPA documented all the Green Book sites in Cincinnati. Using that information, William Spurrier entered all 25 Green Book buildings located in Walnut Hills into HistoryForge, along with information about the type of business and when they appeared in Green Books.
For example, we know that from 1948 to 1955, Manggrum’s Drug Store was listed at 1100 Chapel St. As we can see from the picture Will took, today the location is an empty lot.
To see the complete list of Green Book Sites in HistoryForge:
- Go to walnuthills.historyforge.net > Data > Buildings
- Click on the FILTER button (left side) and select the Field Name Description.
- In the right text box, enter #GreenBook.
- Click SUBMIT.
You will see a list of the 25 Green Book buildings.
